Update September Twenty-First

Polo JonesHey, all y’all! I hope you’re doing well and enjoying the transition into Fall. Although I’ve been extremely busy – too busy to get another update done until now – I’m happy to report that things are going very well, and the CD project is right on track. Let me catch you up as quickly as possible.

That first picture (click any picture to see larger version) is of Polo Jones, producer extraordinaire and really good friend, holding the hard drive that contains everything we’ve done so far. It’s kind of funny (to me, anyway) to think that little box holds the entire project. Back in the day when tape was king, you had to buy a reel of 2″ tape for every fifteen minutes. That meant that you’d get two or three songs per reel. And at $250 a pop, that was a LOT of money to invest in recording medium. Now, for less than $200, you can record hours of music and store it digitally. Nice, huh?

Recently we’ve been using Polo’s mobile studio set-up to do pre-production work. This past Tuesday, we tracked scratch guitar and vocal parts for a couple of tunes. Take a close look at this picture and you’ll notice that I’m holding the pop screen by hand. This is because we couldn’t get the fool thing to stay in place when attached to the mic stand. Yeah, definitely low tech, but it worked!

Lane with pop screenI’m pretty excited about the recent work because I’m actually going to be playing some guitar on this CD. For most of my career, I’ve played with guitar. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I began to play guitar on some live dates. Even then, I didn’t think of myself as a guitarist. I still don’t. However, Polo really liked what he heard on some early live clips, and we decided that since I already knew the parts we wanted, I might as well go ahead and do them on the record. I’m thrilled that both have made the cut for the CD, and I can’t wait for y’all to hear them.

So… that’s all the news I can offer about the project. Beyond that, life is great, and I’m just incredibly grateful for how well things are going. If you’re interested, keep reading.

Anyhoo… that’s about everything that’s fit for print. I’m looking forward to the weekend because I’m actually going to take a few days off. It’s time to recharge the batteries and clear my head a bit. To help facilitate that, I’m going to grill some steaks tonight. It’s always fun to burn meat over an open fire and let my Inner Neanderthal out for a bit.

Before closing, I’d like to ask you a favor. As you know, there’s a brand new Facebook Fan Page, and we’re doing our best to spread the word. If you’re into it, you can help by posting a link to it on your Facebook page. And if you’re REALLY motivated, you could send an email to all your friends telling them about it. In the coming weeks, we’re going to be doing some things just for Facebook fans, so now is a great time to LIKE the page.

OK… enough for now. I have a list of things to complete before I can start my weekend, so I best get to it. Again – and as always – thank you all for your support. I appreciate each and every one of you more than I can say. Until next time, take good care and

God Bless!
