Every year, Lane Baldwin makes a list of reasons to be thankful. It’ something he learned from his dad and he has carried on the tradition since childhood. This year has been particularly trying. At death’s door when he was admitted to an ICU. Flat lined three times before going into surgery. Crawling back from that, facing another operation and two more hospital stays. Being abandoned by those who claim to support the Blues because, in their eyes, it took too long to heal. Dealing with financial collapse and a serious blow to his career. Yes, you could say this has been a year of “Crawling Through Fire.”

And yet, Lane still has reasons to be thankful. To show his gratitude for the good things he still sees in his life, Lane spent Thanksgiving evening feeding the homeless, and spent Saturday guiding a healing/prayer circle for a friend with cancer. You want to “keep the Blues alive?” he said recently. “This is how you do it. You don’t kick them in the teeth when they’re down. You hold out your hand with love and compassion.”
