September 8, 2014, San Jose, CA – Six years after his international release of Dig the Hole, singer, songwriter and bassist Lane Baldwin is set to release his most ambitious effort – The View From Here (Raven Records). Produced by close friend and advisor Polo Jones (musical director for Zucchero Forniciari and for Zu & Co’s Royal Albert Hall concerts), the 12-song disc pushes the boundaries for the veteran performer. It’s already being called “a major step forward,” and “a truly unique offering.” And yet, the CD almost wasn’t released.

After two years in the making, Baldwin was set to release The View From Here  in January, 2014, but was instead hospitalized with a severe abdominal infection. He was revived three times while being prepped for emergency surgery to remove part of his colon, when the infection descended into gangrene. “It’s not something I want to go through again,” Baldwin said, “but I’ve crawled through the fire and come out the other side. If that didn’t stop me, nothing will.”

From the opening track – Lay Me Down, a new take on old-school blues – to the last – a loving cover of Willie Dixon’s Spoonful, played on a one-string homemade hockey stick upright bass, using a drum stick, – Lane takes his spell-bound listeners on a journey through the blues, rock, and more. The disc features performances by numerous top Bay Area players, including drummers Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney) and Bryant Mills (John Lee Hooker), iconic Bay Area guitarist Terry Hiatt, Las Vegas guitar wizard David Adams (Ronnie Montrose), keyboardists Nate Ginsberg (Larry Graham, Herbie Hancock) and Danny B. (Sista Monica Parker), the Abbott Brothers and the Mambo Tropical Horns. The result is an engagingly diverse collection of songs that carry the listener on a journey through American music.

The View From Here is already generating a buzz around the world, with fans and media outlets in Europe, Australia and the US calling it “Americana at its finest.” A tour in support of the CD is planned for late 2014 and 2015. Cliché or not, as Lane releases his new CD and looks forward to touring the world, he says “the view from here looks better than ever.”
